It’s time to get back to black!
Let’s say you’re tired of the calories and the inflammation causing effects of sugar when it comes to your coffee. Perhaps you’re starting to feel a soft tummy coming about due to your penchant for French vanilla lattes. (Oh, that foamy milk, so soft on your lips!)
So you’ve decided to quit the flavored and sugared-up coffee drinks. But the sweetness! The flavor! So. Hard. To. Quit.
But the sugar, the calories: they are so not good for you!
What to do? Read below.
Remember that coffee in its purest form – black – actually has a lot of flavor.
We can’t make out the different flavors of “plain” coffee because our taste buds have become so accustomed to the sugared flavoring, creams, etc. Black coffee is filled with a wide variety of essences that smell and taste indulgent, if only the sugar and cream hadn’t dulled our taste buds to them.
Understand that learning to love black coffee will take time.
Coffee in its natural state does taste bitter. The love for black coffee definitely is an acquired taste and it will take you some time to acquire it. But bear with the process and you’ll be rewarded with the sweet and fruity flavors that reside in your un-adulterated cup of black coffee!
Veer away from the flavored coffees and just use cream and sugar.
This is merely the first step, the step that will wean you from vanilla, blueberry flavor shots and whipped cream. Simply order a black coffee and ask for cream and sugar. If you need to, ask for more sugar and cream, but work to cut back on the amounts each week – or even with each cup. Believe us, you will get used to it.
Take a couple of sips before adding cream and sugar.
As you’re weaning yourself from cream/sugar, once you pour a cup, take a few sips and savor the flavor. If you do this while trying different blends and roasts (see below), you’ll start to expand your coffee repertoire while working on your ability to do without added sweetness, texture and flavor.
Next, move to different blends and roasts.
Trying different roasts and blends allows you to experience different tastes. As time goes on, you’ll be able to tell one roast/blend from another because your taste buds will be able to sense the sweet, the fruity, bitter, or even the creamy (yes, there are blends that offer a creamy taste without cream).
Go cold turkey.
If you just can’t seem to get away from adding sugar, cream and/or flavor, try going cold turkey and drink black for a week only. Dedicate yourself to the task, it’s just one week! You may be very surprised how much you love black coffee after just a few days.
Purchase a specialty coffee.
Drinking a fine, specialty coffee truly allows you to savor its flavor. Specialty coffee such as Ubean Coffee has a far richer flavor and – we believe – makes it easier to go from sugar/cream to all-black. Willing to give it a try? Find a distributor near you.
