Who doesn’t love a great pumpkin spice latte in October or a mint mocha around the holidays!? But heading out to purchase these drinks can end up costing a good deal of money. Why not make these luxurious drinks at home and potentially save hundreds of dollars a year?
What’s more, you may not even need an espresso machine or other expensive tools. Sound too good to be true? Read below.
All your gourmet-coffee-loving heart needs is to follow a few gourmet coffee-making “hacks.”
For example, make your everyday coffee extra special by adding spices or flavored extracts (a little actually goes a long way). Instead of using espresso for a fancy drink, just use regular coffee (you’re not trying to impress anyone, after all, and we won’t give away your secret).
As for the all-important foam for lattes or steamed milk for other drinks, simply get a pot, place milk in it and heat it to almost a boil. Whisk the milk as it starts to heat up and whisk ever faster as the milk becomes hot. You’ll end up with foam at the top; spoon it on to your coffee.
Want a fancy-schmancy latte? Simply whisk one and one-quarter cups of milk until foamy. Then add in the flavoring of your choice and then pour a shot of espresso (or double-strength coffee) over it.
What about a pumpkin-spice latte? All you need to do is place a pot on your stove and whisk together two tablespoons of pumpkin puree, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, two tablespoons of sugar, a cup of milk and ¼ teaspoon of pumpkin spice. Whisk until the mix starts to foam and then pour a shot of espresso/double-strength coffee over it!
Don’t be afraid: if you make a mistake, you’ve wasted little money and you’re learning something. You’ll eventually get it and then can experiment with different flavors and spices to your heart’s content. Hold a dinner and imagine being able to whip up the aforementioned lattes right in front of your guests’ eyes? Talk about impressive! And affordable!
