You’re tired of spending the extra money on a latte at your local coffee drive-through or café on your way to work, because you know you can save considerably if you make your coffee at home. But you love your daily latte and just can’t give it up.
So you’ve decided to learn how to make your favorite drink at home.
You’re determined to do it right. Perfectly. You’ve been watching those latte art how-to videos on YouTube and you’re set.
Take a look below to learn how you can make the latte. At home. Using what you have in your kitchen. Even without a milk frother and an espresso machine. It may not be café-pretty, but it will do the job.
Here we go.
- Espresso is a very strong drink and the true definition of a latte is a coffee drink that uses espresso. But if you don’t have the equipment to make espresso, simply use very strongly brewed coffee.
- As for the frothy milk, it’s pretty easy to make in your microwave oven: simply pour 2% or nonfat milk in a jam jar (or other small glass jar with a very tight lid) halfway up. Tighten the lid and then shake the jar until the milk is foamy. (This should take between 30 and 60 seconds.)
- Then place the jar in the microwave for about 30 seconds (make sure you take off the lid). You’ll end up with spoonfuls of milk foam as well as nicely warmed milk to use in your latte.
- Pour the milk into a wide and shallow coffee cup over your espresso/strongly brewed coffee. (Fill the cup about one-third way with the coffee beforehand.) Use a spoon to hold the milk foam back. Pour as much of the warm milk as you want into the cup.
- Now add the foam. Spoon as much of the foam as you like into your latte. You can garnish as desired with nutmeg, cocoa powder or even grated bits of chocolate.
