You’ve decided to take the plunge: you’re going to open a café or coffee shop. Or – and this makes us very happy – you’ve decided to start your own business as one of our independent distributors.
Regardless of what type of coffee business you’re going to start – congratulations, and welcome to entrepreneurship! We want to help you be successful so we’ve done some research and have found four things that successful entrepreneurs know – and do – to ensure become so. Take a look below.
They do what they enjoy, but they take their business very seriously.
It’s obvious you have the first part down: you love coffee and have decided to open a business related to coffee: selling great coffee to like-minded people.
But your café or Ubean business really isn’t about your needs: it’s about the needs of your customers. Yes, you may have started your distributorship with Ubean only in order to make some extra money, but you must remember: it’s a business, and your clients/customers are going to expect that you will do as you say you will, when you say you will do it. And if a problem comes up? You make sure to fix it, no matter how much doing so will eat into your “personal time.”
Determine what you want from your business and make a plan to get there.
Do you want to start a café chain? How do you plan to get there? Do you want to grow your Ubean distributorship into a full-time income? What steps will you take to get there? That is, how many people will you approach each week? How many customers do you need to serve to not only make a profit, but to also have enough money with the first café to add another one? You get the picture: Start with the end result in mind and work your way backwards, mapping out what you need to do to get to your desired result.
They understand – and embrace – the fact that they are going to have tough conversations.
That’s right: you’re going to have to ask strangers to buy some Ubean Coffee. Or perhaps the local grocery chain. Or the resort/conference center. If a café owner, you may want to ask your suppliers for a bigger discount, fire an underperforming barista, ask a customer to leave when he or she lingers too long at a table, etc.
They don’t give up.
No matter how large or small you want your coffee business to be, you’re going to come across obstacles and challenges. Some of them could be small: a barista quits right before your café opens the day you’re on vacation. Some could be tremendous: the owner of your building defaults on the mortgage and you must vacate pretty much immediately.
But true entrepreneurs figure out ways to overcome challenges and run around obstacles. They stay focused on their goals yet adjust plans and objectives accordingly.
No matter if your entrepreneurial coffee dreams are big or small Ubean Coffee is here for you: become one of our independent distributors or, if opening a café, find the distributor closest to you and treat your customers to premium organic coffee. Either way, you win!
